Media Coverage for Your Brand – Three Essential Steps to Do it Right.

September 10, 2019

By Lena Yudina

If you are an entrepreneur or a freelancer, you have probably noticed that getting media coverage for your business is a time-consuming and daunting activity. Creating new products or services and publicizing about them are two different tasks that should go hand-in-hand if you want your business to grow.

You might feel that spending your time on finding some publicists and media influencers keeps you away from creating your enterprise, products and services. However, without investing continuously in competitive marketing and media campaigns, your venue and products might stay in the shadow or can be ignored by the public.

Getting media coverage for startups and other businesses through storytelling, advertisement, podcasts, creating blogs, radio, or video channels can significantly help to promote your enterprise and raise the awareness of your brand. Also, such publicity may increase the number of new customers, followers, and it can help to attract potential investors. Getting in touch with PR agencies and solo publicists and attending events in your business niche might speed up the media outreach process as well. I can confirm that these tactics helped me to reach out to the local and international audiences with my first digital courses and eBooks on marketing, and press publications in my Digital Magazine “Coffee District Media Magazine.”

There are plenty of strategies that you can use on your own or with the help of the media influencers. Here, I share the three most important steps that will help you to get started.

Develop Long-Lasting Relations with Media Influencers

Niel Patel once mentioned that when it comes to PR and media coverage, approaching well-established media channels like SNN, or BusinessInsider.com might not be a good idea for newbies. The pool of the applicants and writers like yourself at these venues is enormous, and it can be highly competitive to get in touch with their editors. As a result, you can spend weeks or even months waiting until you hear from them. In addition to reaching out to these moguls, try to find several writers, journalists, media influencers, and PR agents that are relevant to your business niche and spend some time communicating with them. Tell your chosen media professionals about your goals, products or projects so that together you can create the most effective press and digital media products for your marketing campaigns.

Journalists and digital content writers are usually very busy people. “In 2014, the US department of labor announced that for every single journalist or digital content writer, 5 PR professionals are beating down that ‘writers’ door. In 2018-19 PR professionals outnumber editorial voices by almost 7:1.” While approaching any of the writers, consider that each of them might have his or her guidelines, schedule and priorities for working on your projects. Therefore, you might need to create a perfect pitch to reach out to your preferred writer and learn about his or her preferences for collaboration.

I often got a question: “What does it take to advertise in your digital magazine or have an interview written on your Blogs?”

When it comes to media coverage and advertisement in my channels , there are a couple of criteria that I ask my clients to follow. Larger companies like www. Enterprenur.com might have their own rules and editorial advice. Whether you choose free publicity while approaching media moguls like www.Enterpreneur.com or www.Inc.com, or you go with paid media influencers, make sure you are aware of the guidelines that they prioritized.

Don't procrastinate with the media coverage. The sooner you start to publicize about your business, the sooner you will reach new audiences, prospective clients or investors. Click To Tweet

Start Blogging on the Topics of Your Interests

If you run a startup company, you might have a website or a blog. If you don’t have either, you might need one for sure. Blogging is a handy digital marketing tool that can deliver your message across communities worldwide. When you write an article, stay focused on the primary agenda of your business, but don’t hesitate to share some life hacks or experiences, introduce your hobbies, or other interests outside the scoop of your work.

Having a personal touch in your stories will make your essays fluent and more attractive to a broader audience. Initiating a conversation with various generations and professionals might bring more exposure to your primary business by default. In the article “5 Ways to Market your Blog and Business,” I shared a couple of tips on marketing your business by sharing your life stories with your audience. Here is what Dave Karpen thinks about fun and effective ways of writing your stories.

Create Pictures, Ads, and Video for your Brand

Creating visual images for your business might sound intense as creating videos, and quality images may take tons of your time, skills and imagination. Creating attractive visuals, infographics, photos, memes, video, etc, is what most marketers or web designers do to boost your brand’s visibility. But if you prioritize your ideas and develop one project at a time, then there will be less stress and more learning and effectiveness. For instance, try focusing on creating stunning images and photos for your next media campaign using the following web design tools. These killing tools helped me accomplish my goals, and I hope they will help you create your visual products and make them look unique.

BeFunky proposed that photo editing and graphic design should be suitable for everybody and not only for professional designers. I like using their web tools as they seem more flexible and user-friendly comparing to Adobe InDesign. Both programs are easy to use; however, you might need to purchase a membership after your free trial period is over.

PicMonkey is another image editing web tool that can let you manipulate the images the way you like it. It also comes with a variety of templates and other features to help you get the most out of your projects. Try spending a couple of hours a day for one week to complete your project. If done correctly, the result of your work will last for an extended period, attracting new clients and business partners to your venue.
