How to master your remote works with “Google Meet”

January 27, 2021

Digital works and remote collaboration through ‘Google Meet’  became a winning feature of our days. It is marching up across the borders with demanding speed, reaching different countries and regions of the world. Teachers, students, business owners, marketers, artists, and other people should adjust to such challenges to grow their presence online. Spending most of my career in digital marketing, consulting, and teaching helped me acquire considerable tips that I will share with you in this post.

Digital Collaboration and Teaching Online

During my first years of teaching and consulting online, I found it very intimidating to work from my home. My list of digital tools that I used for my online webinars, classes, and workshops was two pages long. Some additional questions about the setting of my workspace at home had rushed through my mind. What background should I have for video conferencing? Do I need a microphone to make my presentation look professional? Should I wear my makeup? What about the daylight, will it help me to make a quality video? It felt as I was transformed into a character with multiple jobs of a teacher, a writer, a producer, designer, and the IT specialist at once.

Some Tips to Set Up your Home Working Space

Let us go over a few tips that will make it easier for you to work from home, whether you are a consultant, marketer, teacher or an online learner. There is no secret that sitting in-front of your computer for a long period of time may change your posture that might ultimately ruin your health. Take care of this issue before it will start knocking at your door. Speaking of posture, did you measure your study desk and its hight? Is it proportional to your body measures? Is it important to have a chair that protects or corrects your posture? What Yoga Exercise helps to stretch your muscles?

Posture Awareness

1. When hunching over a computer, your head may tend to lean forward, which can lead to poor posture. Upper back and shoulder strengthening exercises and neck posture drills are great to help to correct a hunched back. Our interview with Nancy While, the owner of her Yoga Education Institute will bring some light to this issue.

2. Use the Laptop Stand / Laptops Elevator for the Desk, or any Laptop Holder to avoid hunching your back. This cost-effective device will help you control your shoulders and spine while working at your computer. It might also give you a better angle for making appealing videos and photos during your remote sessions.

3. Set up a background that is not destructive. I prefer to have some plants, wall clocks, light bookshelves, pictures, or an open window in my background. Such settings bring more space, air, and peace into the working area and your online communication.

‘Google Meet’ for Work and Fun

To set up your video conferences, one-on-one lessons or group webinars with “Google Meet” go to meet.google.com and choose one option. If you are organizing your video meeting choose: “new meeting” option. If you are accepting an invitation for a video meeting, choose “enter a code or link” option, and enter your code.

Using “Google Meet” is free ( for up to 100 participants for a 1 hour of meeting, no limits on meetings). It is available to most audiences across the Globe. It is great for teaching, consulting, or getting together online for work-related or fun activities. Use it to celebrate Birthday Parties and Karaoke Nights with your coworkers, listen to your Spotify lists , and more. To participate in ‘Google Meet’ collaboration you might need to create an email account with Google. But it is not necessary. Your meeting organizer will invite you by sending you a link to any of your email accounts. After that you can use this link to join the digital meeting, just don’t forget to accept it. For larger organizations Google has additional recommendations on how to set up and join meetings online.

How to Book your Meetings in Google Calendar

To book and view your meetings in Google Calendar, go to www.meet.google.com, hit the ‘new meeting’ button, and choose this option. You will be redirected to the view of the Calendar where you can modify your options. You can write a title for your meeting, set up a date, write your notes, invite your participants, and more. I often use this feature to set up my works in advance where I organize all my participants in groups. Everyone will respectively receive my invitations and the links to join our digital meetings in accordance to our projects.

Other Features Of ‘Google Meet’

There are some other features that might help you to minimize your efforts while dealing with works in ‘Google Meet’. For example, you can mute your microphone, turn off your camera, or use a chat option by clicking those buttons accordingly. If you are offering online products like lessons, workshops, ebooks, and webinars, you might need to share a lot of content you created in different formats. Use the ‘Present Now’ option located at the bottom left corner of your screen and share your slides, Google Docs, charts, photos, or other content.

Combine Your Webinars and Free Video Consultations to share about your Products

‘Google Meet’ is extremely useful for brief meetings with your partners and learners from all corners of the World. You can use ‘Google Meet’ to offer a free video consultation to share about your new products, programs, and services. For instance, I recently created my account and my store (Ask Lena NYC) at TeachersPayTeachers.com where I sell my eBooks or Courses, and teach my Webinars on ELA Writing and Digital Education. The “TeachersPayTeachers” is a great venue for teachers, students, and parents alike. It proposes an enormous amount of useful free or paid materials for learners of all ages and occupations. I also use ‘Google Classroom’ and ‘Google Slides’, as a combination of digital tools to deliver the best results to my clients.

Using ‘Google Meet’ for your Interviews and PR projects

Using the ‘Google Meet’ feature for my Marketing and PR projects was as useful as it was convenient. Creating an invitation and discussing the topic of my meetings in ‘Google Calendar’ is always quick and easy. Your client may always send you a comment, reschedule an interview, accept or reject it in a couple of clicks. If your client needs more tips about your works, add some links to your portfolio or a website, and share them in ‘Google Calendar.’ This way you can save your time on introducing yourself before your meetings. I store my portfolio and most of my remote works with the ‘Google Meet’ on www.MuckRuck.com or other venues. The link is added by default to the majority of my introductory notes that I send through the ‘Google Meet’ to my first time clients and potential partners in marketing.

For more information, go to Google Workspace Admin Help page and follow their links. In my following posts on #Help with Google I will elaborate on more ideas for keeping your remote works effective and competitive. If you have a story about your business, products, music, or arts to share, don’t hesitate to reach out. It will be a pleasure to interview you and share your story with my global audience.
