Top 3 Business & Health Ideas for Parenting & Working from Home

April 20, 2020

By Lena Yudina.

As I shared it in my interview on The Huffington Post’ ThriveGlobal and Authority Magazine, ‘although we can not control the unfolding of the outbreak of COVID-19, we can control our behavior within it.’ People can educate themselves about some daily choices they make to reduce stress and to gain stability. Taking charge of sustaining Serenity is already an uplifting experience that we can’t miss. My favorite quote is, “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose…”

Over the last few months, media outlets across the world spoke loudly about Coronavirus and its tragic repercussions. The news confirmed the crushing of businesses and the meltdown of educational and medical systems. People are wondering if the sudden loss of our typical patterns of human interactions will remain for good? A stressful “new normal” has touched almost everyone, compromising people’s lives, health, business goals, and even appearance. As I watched how the majority of us reacted to this stressful situation, I asked myself some questions. I wondered if a “fight-or-flight” reaction to the outbreak works? Or if, perhaps, remaining calm and reasonable while responding to this crisis would be a better choice? In this article, I want to share three of my favorite tips on how to sustain Serenity, Business, and Health while working, parenting, and studying from home.

How Does Fear Produces Stress, and How Does Excessive Stress Make People Sick?

Nowadays, many people are unable to find a way to pump the brakes on stress. Therefore, they are prone to more sickness, instability, and anxiety. Dr. Hervert Benson, Ph.D. from Massachusetts General Hospital, B.K. Lyengar, and Gautama Buddha (5 B.C.) believed that people could learn techniques to counter their stress response, and reverse the negative consequences into positive results. I agree that these techniques might prevent sliding into depression, setbacks, and despair.

According to Harvard Medical School, chronic activation of a survival mechanism called ” fight-or-flight’ impairs our health. “A stressful situation — whether something environmental, such as a looming work deadline, or psychological, such as persistent worry about losing a job — can trigger a cascade of stress hormones that produce well-orchestrated physiological changes. This combination of reactions to stress is also known as the “fight-or-flight” response. It evolved as a survival mechanism, enabling people and other mammals to react quickly to life-threatening situations. Over time, repeated activation of the stress response takes a toll on the body. Research suggests that chronic stress contributes to high blood pressure, promotes the formation of artery-clogging deposits. It can trigger the accumulation of bad cholesterol and causes brain changes that may contribute to anxiety, depression, addiction, and obesity.”

Studies have shown that autoimmune disorders are also rooted in stress, which the body accumulated in the past. People with a weakened immune system are vulnerable to more risk during and after pandemics. Therefore, for the prevention or treatment of some diseases, people should be trained or educated in stress-reduction techniques, as well as public health concepts. Such education can be useful for both categories of people – children and adults.

Dr. Herbert Benson, former director of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine, spent years of his career studying stress, meditation, and Buddhism. He dedicated a decade to learning how people can counter the stress response by using a combination of approaches that stimulate the relaxation response. “These include deep abdominal breathing, focus on a soothing word (such as peace or calm), visualization of tranquil scenes, repetitive prayer, yoga, and tai chi.” I would say that the quality of organic food people consume and the quality of the air and water we drink makes a huge difference as well.

At the same time, B.K. Yengar proposed the fantastic benefits of Yoga in the 20-21st century. He suggested that Yoga should be a daily practice that is as important as having breakfast. Gautama Buddha created a set of meditation techniques that allow breathing and visualization to affect the roots of human DNA. He discovered that these techniques could make positive changes in healing the body without drugs. Current days Mind-body interventions (MBIs) and mindful meditation – an adapted form of Buddhist meditation and Yoga don’t merely relax us. They can ‘reverse’ the molecular reactions in our DNA, which cause ill-health and depression, according to a study by the universities of Coventry and Radboud. So, how can we implement the above strategies to sustain Serenity, productivity, and prolong wellness?

POSTURE, YOGA FOR LOWER BACK, AND SPRING DETOX

The COVID-19 will make many people spend hours in front of the computer. Whether you are an entrepreneur or a college student, the way you worked in the past will differ in the future. Keeping the right posture while working in front of your computer is a must. Are you struggling with a sturdy neck and shoulders? Having issues with lower back, digestion, and sleep? Working from home requires new ways of dealing with working remotely. Implementing simple Yoga exercises for relaxation and detoxification, and maintaining the correct posture has hidden benefits for our health.

Our spine holds on to most of the organs in the body. Therefore, when our back is hunched, the remaining organs are misplaced. As a result, a sufficient flow of blood and oxygen in the body is compromised. So pick a few simple Yoga or QiGong poses and implement them throughout the day. Gym or no gym, you can read or watch a movie while practicing some yoga poses on the floor, backyard, or even on your couches and sofas.

While at home, I love using a variety of Yoga poses, including simple poses for lower back, neck, and detox. I like Sukhasana, (Lotus), a simple cross-legged sitting asana in Hatha Yoga, sometimes used for meditation in Buddhism. This pose is also great for reading and writing. I implement some twisting poses or poses like Cobra, Humble Warrior, Goddess Pose, or Goddess Squat Pose. Being Certified in teaching yoga, I often advise my team members at my boutique Marketing Agency to include Yoga, meditation, and music in their daily schedules. I will encourage everyone who reads this article to practice these, or some other Hatha Yoga stretches throughout the day. They are great for maintaining posture, focus, productivity, and relaxation. Speaking of my favorite yoga mats I chose eco friendly brands like non-slip yoga mats by SGS. Adding QiGong poses and Meditation techniques is another fun and gratifying activity that I will describe in my following articles. Step-by-step, one pose, one item, and one O.M. at a time. MEDITATE YOUR STRESS AWAY

Before going to sleep or early in the morning, spend 3-10 minutes practicing Guided Meditation. Breathe in, and breathe out with short holds of breath when you inhale. Compose a unique affirmation-prayer where you accept and greet the sensations that your body experiences. Be grateful to your body for its ability to inhale and exhale, and ‘feel’ your thoughts and emotions. Put together a couple of words for your mantra, and repeat it a couple of times. You may say something like this: “I accept, and I am grateful for all the happenings as long as I can feel, love, and breathe.” Imagine beautiful places on Earth you have never been to, such as exotic lakes, mountains, or oceans. Ask the Earth to share its energy with you, and ‘promise’ the Earth to give it back.

TIME MANAGEMENT AND HEALING OUR SENSES

Today in this new “normal reality,” parents and children dwell together and work from home, as schools are closed, and businesses are scattered. I found that the so-called “to-do list” or how I call it, “to-do drop-down menu with 100+items” is not working for me anymore. To make my day go smoothly, I prefer to divide my to-do schedule into four parts. They include 1.”Most Important / Urgent”, 2.”Important /Not Urgent”, 3.”Not Important/ Not Urgent,” and 4.”Other Plans to Remember.” This approach helps me to organize my daily tasks with better understating and control over the outcome. It also helps me to balance my work-life schedule, and to spend more time with my family or exploring new things.

HEALING OUR SENSES WITH HOBBIES & NEW LEARNING

Have you tried including hobbies in your schedule? Let say; you always wanted to learn how to bake, surf, or write. So, start mastering a new hobby, and write about it today! Or perhaps, you wanted to start a blog about medicinal herbs, teas, and spices, vitamins or organic food supplements ? Pick up an idea, a delicious product, and make a blog or even an e-cmmerce store out of it. You will learn a lot of new skills just because you dared to start somewhere in the first place! Some of my favorite vitamins I can recommend is natural Vitamin C for women and men.

All of these activities can be fantastic stress-reducers that bring you positive vibes and feelings. They can even provoke you to start building a profitable enterprise. If you changed your career or lost your job due to COVID-19, click HERE to learn the Pros & Cons of this transition.

There is also a fascinating Course for aspiring entrepreneurs, marketers, and copywriters that I developed two years ago. Since then, I have taught and mentored many global followers. After my student’s enrollment and practices, I often publish their best stories in my blogs, or advertise their business in my digital magazine C/D Magazine! Your stories and brands can be seen there too.

During COVID_19, most of the families dwell together while working and studying from homes. It is natural for parents to want to include their children in some healthy activities. Here are a couple of tips to help your children learn relaxation techniques, while you can join their projects as a ‘team member.’ Practice Yoga and Meditation together and make it fun. Kids love poses that remind them of nature and animals. So, include Cobra, Seated Pigeon, Alligator, Mountain, or Tree poses in your family Yoga & Meditation Workshops.

Intellectual Fun

Also, there are intellectual activities you can practice along. For instance, playing chess with your family or a friend. Make sure the chess set of your choice is astonishing and is calling for actions. Or you can start learning two different languages simultaneously in a parallel mode. It can be as fun and relaxing as positive and useful activity. If you are native to one particular language ( for instance, English), you can quickly learn another language in a parallel mode (Russian, or German, or French, or Italian), using a specific curriculum and textbooks that are written in both chosen languages simultaneously. I bet your kids and yourself will love new learning as a new or additional study curriculum.

Learning foreign languages or mastering your child’s native language through fun music and writing activities is another proven and a refreshing way to get multiple benefits at once. A couple of years ago, I wrote my two mini eBooks and designed a couple of digital courses for our little writers. I believe that journaling, learning languages, or writing has therapeutic and intellectual benefits and the potential to grow authenticity. It also stimulates speech and reading abilities.

“THE BEST WAY TO ENVISION YOUR FUTURE is to start building it today”~quote

It will be wrong to take my e-Courses as an extra dull lesson or burden for your child’s shoulders. I spent some time making sure to approach my eBooks with creativity, and I encourage creativity from my students. So, everyone can take my courses as a substitute for a pill from anxiety, boredom, and loneliness.

Whichever activity or strategy works for you and your family during the COVID 19, you sure have to take some steps towards choosing the best ways to control the consequences of the pandemics.
In this article, I showed how people could refocus from negative to positive by learning new hobbies, or stress-releasing techniques, and how busy, but organized work schedule can make everyone happy.
